USCIS Extends Registration Period for Haitian TPS

haitian tpsThe U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that eligible Haitian nationals have an additional 6 months to apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS).  The new registration period ends on January 18, 2011.

Since January 19, 2010, the day Haitian nationals were authorized to pursue TPS, DHS officials have heard from Haitian community leaders and their supporters that Haitians needed additional time to pursue their TPS applications.  Many have been unable to pay the $ 470 filing fee, some have been unable to qualify for a DHS filing fee waiver, and others still remain hesitant to come forward and apply.

The extension of the registration period will allow more eligible Haitians the opportunity to pursue their applications in the hopes of receiving the protection these Haitian nationals so desperately need.
