The Orlando Sentinel reported today that during President Obama’s speech yesterday on the topic of immigration reform, he blamed opposition from Republican lawmakers as the reason why our country’s immigration laws haven’t been reformed.
The issue of immigration reform has been given more attention because of the Arizona immigration law that will become effective later this month. The Obama administration is expected to announce the filing of a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of that law.
Reactions to the President’s speech have been varied. One reaction from some immigration advocates that have been frustrated that the President for not giving the immigration issue enough attention, were happy that he finally gave it some attention.
A second reaction was that the President is making a new effort to resolve the immigration problem, but politically, he will need bi-partisan support to make immigration reform a reality.
A third reaction is that the immigration problem will continue to grow and, it won’t be resolved anytime soon because of mid-term elections, the economy, and rising unemployment.
