The Chicago Tribune reported today that the mid-term elections have essentially changed the direction of government due to lawmakers hearing their constituents’ anger, frustration, and the economic downturn, have caused them to not propose legislation and spend money, two of the most basic duties of lawmakers.
After many lawmakers risked their future on health care reform, most of them have shown to have very little desire to propose legislation, have debates on the Congressional floor to resolve crucial matters such as the immigration problem in light of the opinions of their constutuents against government spending given the huge deficit our country has.
Lawmakers have said that the solution in some issues is simply not to vote. Some have said that immigration reform is too politically volatile to deal with and bills that will take a tremendous amount of money to push forward are now being set aside.
Immigration reform seems to have become an issue so sensitive that lawmakers are hesitant to resolve it, but will continue allow the problem to linger.
