Arizona Immigration Law Experiencing Legal Challenges

immigration reform 2The Orlando Sentinel reported this past Friday that five lawsuits have been filed against the Arizona immigration law since its Governor signed it into law in April of this year.  The Governor was sued personally in four of those lawsuits.

The law, which goes into effect on July 29th, requires law enforcement in the course of their duties, to question an individual’s immigration status if there is reason to believe that the individual being questioned is an undocumented immigrant.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuits argued that the Arizona law is unconstitutional and, that the enforcement of the immigration laws rest with the federal government.  Additionally, the U.S. Attorney General mentioned recently that the federal government is considering whether or not to file its own lawsuit challenging the law.
