Immigrant Activists Urge the President to Pass Immigration Reform
The Washington Times reported today that immigrant rights activists and their supporters are having a rally on March 21, 2010 at the National Mall in Washington, DC to pressure Congress to pass an immigration reform bill and urged the President to end deportations.
Immigrant rights groups and their supporters who voted for the President feel that they have lost patience with him and argue that he has not done enough to push for immigration reform.
Recently, the President met with Senators Charles Schumer and Lindsey Graham to work on having an immigration reform bill on the Congressional floor before the mid-term elections later this year.
Realistically, a bill like this could take months to pass in light of the debates that will follow. However, immigrant rights groups have said that while an immigration reform bill is being debated, the President must put a stop to deportations.
Immigration reform is gaining momentum once again. People will continue to march and rally plus, the other problems we as a nation have such as the economy and health care reform still remain to be resolved. However at the end of the day, it all comes down to passing comprehensive legislation that both lawmakers and the American people can live with.
