Owner of English Language School Charged with Immigration Fraud
The U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (USICE) reported that the owner and employee of the Florida Language Institute (FLI) were arrested and charged with immigration fraud.
Based on the USICE’s investigation, they discovered that the school sponsored non-immigrant foreign students and issued I-20 forms without requiring the students to maintain a full time course of study. Maintaining a full time course of study is a requirement to maintain F-1 student visa status.
The investigation also revealed that only about 5 % of FLI students attended class.
In addition to the arrest and indictment of the school officials, 81 student visa violators that claimed to have been attending FLI were arrested and are in USICE custody pending deportation proceedings.
It is crucial that student visa holders maintain a full time course of study, that the school is legitimate and authorized to enroll foreign students.
