The Orlando Sentinel reported today that religious leaders in the Central Florida area renewed their call yesterday to Congress to pass immigration reform that if signed into law, would legalize millions of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. The leaders have said that it is time for both the Obama administration and Congress to address this issue.
The leaders, led by Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas G. Wenski, included Baptist, Methodist, Episcopal and Islamic religious leaders who are advocating for compassion for the thousands of immigrants in their congregations and across the country.
The leaders are starting a national campaign called “Justice for Immigrants.” with the backing of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, to collect and distribute postcards signed by members of the various congregations which will then be delivered to members of Congress.
Immigration reform although a touchy subject, has been debated on and off for the past 4 years with no resolution. The time has come for decision makers to address the problem and come to a consensus to pass comprehensive legislation to resolve this issue once and for all.
