USCIS Changes Filing Location for Applications for Work Authorization
The U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) reported that effective today, applicants for work authorization under the various categories are required to submit their application to the designated lockboxes in Phoenix or Dallas depending on where the applicant resides.
The USCIS’ designation of these lockboxes is part of their effort to reallocate resources and relieve some of the workload from the USCIS Service Centers to USCIS Lockbox facilities.
The increasing use of lockbox facilities allows USCIS to more effectively handle the initial processing of applications and filing fees.
Historically the USCIS or better said, legacy INS, would accept applications for work authorization depending on the category sought either at the local district offices or at the service centers.
The reallocation of their resources via the lockbox system has already proven more effective.
Overall, applicants benefit from this and as a result, their applications are processed more timely which will mean having the ability to work legally in the U.S. more quickly.
