Super Bowl Sunday is Coming, Counterfeiters Beware

superbowlThe U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (USICE) reported today that its  agents out of their Miami District Office have seized over 1,600 items of fake Super Bowl items such as hats, shirts, tickets, along with other counterfeit souveniers having a value of over $150,000.

The seizures were part of USICE’s investigation into Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) violations in the South Florida area of knock off items that if not seized, would have been sold at this Sunday’s Super Bowl 44.

The USICE will continue to identify and apprehend vendors, and seize merchandise at all Super Bowl events and venues throughout the Miami area.

The proceeds from the sale of these fake items have in the past been used to fund organizations that are involved in activities such money laundering, trafficking in narcotics, weapons, and people.  Therefore, seizures such as this will hamper more serious criminal activity.
