Official Census Count to Begin Soon, Undocumented Immigrants Fearful of the Head Count

census countThe Washington Times reported today that the U.S. Census Bureau is having trouble in gaining the trust of immigrants, particularly, undocumented immigrants that census data collected from them will not be used against them to identify, apprehend, and deport.

During the last census count in 2000, the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (USICE) was asked by the Census Bureau to temporarily suspended large-scale immigration raids so that the count would not be affected.  However, the same type of assurance was not given which has made immigrants distrustful of the head count.

The point of the census count is to determine the gaining or losing seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, for the setting or resetting legislative boundaries, allocation of federal funds to the states, plus many other reasons that if not done properly because of an under-count (largely from immigrants refusing to take part and be accounted for), may go as far as changing the balance of political power.

We at Pappas & Associates, P.A. call on all immigrants to take part in the census count and be counted.
