The Orlando Sentinel reported today that Haitian nationals who were in the U.S. on or before January 12, 2010 (the day the 7.0 magnitude earthquake ravaged that country) can submit their applications for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) begining tomorrow. The U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) will publish the details as to where to submit the applications either today or tomorrow.
We at Pappas & Associates, P.A. call on eligible Haitians to come forward and apply for TPS as soon as possible. This temporary benefit that will go a long way for Haitians in their time of crisis.
The idea for Haitians in the U.S. to receive TPS benefits is so that they can work and remain in the U.S. legally for at least the 18 month authorized period, send remittances to their relatives in Haiti, and help with the recovery efforts.
Just today, another earthquake having a 6.0 magnitude rocked Haiti just after 6 this morning. In light of the additional devastation, it is even more urgent that special benefits such as TPS and Humanitarian Parole for Haitian nationals both in the U.S. and in Haiti are granted on an expedited basis.
