The Orlando Sentinel reported today that an earthquake that measured 7.0 on the Richter Scale ravaged Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere yesterday afternoon.
The United States and other countries along with the International Red Cross began to organize relief efforts and gathering supplies to send to Haiti.
In light of the circumstances, Haitian immigrants who are in the U.S. may now be in a better position to plead with the Federal government to grant them Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and to stay their deportations until circumstances permit.
We at Pappas & Associates, P.A. would like to convey to our Haitian readers that we hope that their relatives in Haiti are safe, and hope that the government can act quickly and authorize TPS for Haitians so that the Haitian immigrant community can continue to send desperately needed food, aid, and supplies to their families.
