State of the Union Address This Week, “Will the President Discuss Immigration Reform?”

Economic ConditionsThe Orlando Sentinel reported today that insiders in Washington have said that in light of the President’s State of the Union address that is scheduled for this week Wednesday, he will mention a few initiatives such as doubling the child care tax credit for families earning under $85,000 per year, a $1.6 billion increase in federal funding for child care programs, and a program to cap student loan payments at 10% of an individual’s income.

The President will also discuss expanding tax credits to match retirement savings plus implementing a program to help families who are primary caregivers of elderly relatives.

Initiatives such as tax breaks are a good start to tackle the economy, but those initiatives come with the problem of how to create jobs to reduce the climbing unemployment rate of almost 12%, and, how to legalize the undocumented immigrant population.

It all boils down to how the President and his administration will prioritize these massive problems.

Although, it may be too early to tell right now whether or not immigration reform will be mentioned at the State of the Union address, but until the immigration problem is resolved, advocates and their supporters will continue to rally and march and hope the President takes notice and resolves this growing problem.
