The Immigration & Customs Enforcement (USICE) recently apprehended and indicted a Guyanese national along with a few others on charges of conspiracy and alien smuggling in connection with the smuggling and/or attempted smuggling of four Indian nationals into the United States.
According to the indictment, from April 2009 to Nov. 17, 2009, a USICE investigation revealed that the individuals conspired to bring to the U.S., four (4) nationals from India.
The smugglers obtained fraudulent travel documents visas for the individuals and brought them to Belize. The individuals were transported through various countries in Central and South America with the final destination being Houston, Texas.
The smugglers face the possibility of a prison sentence of five (5) years for the conspiracy charge and ten (10) years for each of the four counts of encouraging and inducing aliens to come to the United States for profit.
