H-1B Visas Still Available, But Starting to Run Low

immigrant investorsThe U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services  (USCIS) reported today that as of November 6, 2009, about 54,700 H-1B applications subject to the annual quota of 65,000 have been submitted.

The USCIS has already enough H-1B applications under the advanced degree cap of 20,000 visas for foreign nationals who have Masters or Ph.D. degrees.

All other H-1B applications submitted including applications where foreign nationals have advanced degrees will now count toward the general H-1B cap of 65,000.

Back on November 3, 2009, we reported that the H-1B visa cap count was at 52,800.  Now that the count is at 54,700, it means that the USCIS has approved 1900 visas in just over 2 weeks, leaving just over 10,000 visas available.

If the USCIS continues approving application at this rate, then the H-1B visa cap would be reached within 5 to 6 weeks.  Therefore, the race to obtain an H-1B visa intensifies.
