The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration approved by a voice vote yesterday, the September 11th Family Humanitarian Relief & Patriotism Act of 2009 (H.R. 3290).
If this bill is signed into law by the President, it would allow spouses and unmarried minor children under 21 years of age of undocumented immigrants who died in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to apply for lawful permanent residence (green cards). The bill will now be referred to the full Judiciary committee for consideration.
If passed into law, hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who have lost their spouses and/or parents on that tragic day would be able to know that they would finally be allowed to remain in the United States.
We will monitor the bill’s developments in Congress and post updates as they become available.
