The Washington Times reported recently that with President Obama having postponed immigration reform until sometime next year because of more pressing issues such as health care reform and the economy, immigrant rights groups have criticized the Obama Administration by saying that immigration reform is “slipping away.”
Several groups have said the only short term solution for undocumented immigrants until immigration reform ultimately passes would be for the Federal government to suspend some of the Bush-era immigration enforcement so that illegal immigrants don’t get apprehended, placed in deportation proceedings, and hence be subjected to a system that is already broken.
The President wants immigration reform, he has voted on it in the past when he was a Senator, and, he feels that there is a time and place to resolve this problem.
The country is experiencing some major problems such as healthcare reform, the economy, energy, and of course immigration reform. The President is in fact tackling these problems head on, but lawmakers and ultimately the American people, must come to terms with finding comprehensive solutions to our nation’s problems in as much of an efficient manner as possible.
With the nation’s problems in mind, the question to ask, “Is immigration reform really slipping away?” You decide.
