The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced recently, that in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), it has met all of the goals set forth in a joint business plan announced on April 2, 2008 and has eliminated the FBI’s National Name Check Program (NNCP) backlog.
Prior to the attainment of these goals, the USCIS has held millions of approvable applications in abeyance pending the FBI’s NNCP clearance.
Now that the goals have been reached, and the majority of the NNCP clearances have resulted in a no record response, the USCIS can now resume normal processing of these applications which most often results in a final determination of eligibility.
Additionally, applications that were previously delayed as a result of the NNCP check, USCIS officers can now update fingerprint results, request additional evidence, schedule interviews and, render decisions to grant or deny immigration benefits.
